A CCPD drone helping find a truck thief is the basis for this Coconut Creek Police Department Arrest Alert. It was the first time in agency history one of our officers used a drone to help make an arrest.

It all started last Thursday (October 1) at 11:39 a.m. when officers were called to the Club Caribe apartment complex due to neighbors complaining about three young people sleeping in a U-Haul truck in the parking lot. The investigation determined the U-Haul truck had been stolen.

Officers quickly arrested 18-year-old Malakai Sturrup of Margate, along with a 17-year-old girl. Another 17-year-old suspect tried to hide from officers until an officer on-scene used a drone to find him. Wisely, he surrendered without incident.
