School starts August 10th

Stop what you're doing and read this post!

School starts in the morning. Coconut Creek High School has the earliest start time - before 7 a.m. Lyons Creek Middle School has the latest - which is 9:30 a.m.

A few important things to keep in mind:

1) You'll see extra officers at each school during the morning drop-off, as well as the afternoon pick-up times. Extra officers will also be visiting the schools during their lunch times.

2) Slow down. Be aware. Be patient. Expect challenges during the first week with traffic and wait times to drop-off and pick-up. Usually, a lot of those issues are overcome by the second week of school.

3) School buses are now equipped with cameras to catch drivers who pass them while the arm stop signs are deployed. The ticket is costly, as it should be.

4) School zone speed cameras at Creek High (Cougar Trail),

Winston Park Elementary (NW 39th Avenue), and Tradewinds Elementary (Johnson Road) will be back up and running. The cameras will be on during the entire school day, not just when the signs are flashing at 15 mph. So be aware of your speed.

5) Traffic incidents involving bicycles and pedestrians are rare. Help us keep it that way. Make sure your bikers, e-bikers, and scooter riders are wearing a helmet. Teach your kids to only cross the street at crosswalks or corners and always obey the directions of the school crossing guards.

As always, let's work together to make a difference in the lives of students, parents, teachers and staff at each of our great Coconut Creek schools!
