Water and Wastewater Services Update
The City of Coconut Creek (City) does not operate its own water or wastewater treatment plants. Instead, the City contracts with Broward County (County) to purchase water at a reduced sale-for-resale rate and to provide wastewater transmission and treatment services. The City is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the local water and wastewater infrastructure that serves our community.
The City’s water infrastructure includes storage tanks, booster stations, water lines, fire hydrants, valves, and related components that distribute potable water to homes and businesses. Our wastewater infrastructure includes gravity sewer lines, lift stations, force mains, and related components that transport wastewater to the County’s treatment facilities.
A significant portion of the City’s annual utility costs relates to purchasing water from Broward County, wastewater transmission and treatment services, and maintaining and improving local infrastructure. Broward County establishes the wholesale water and wastewater rates that help fund the operation, maintenance, and long-term investment needed for regional treatment facilities.
To help keep pace with annual operating, maintenance, and infrastructure costs while continuing to provide reliable utility services to our community, the City is proposing a modest water and wastewater rate adjustment of up to 3.4% effective June 1, 2026. This adjustment is consistent with Broward County’s blended wholesale rate increase that took effect in October 2025. The proposed increase will support ongoing system maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and continued compliance with regulatory requirements while helping minimize the need for larger increases in the future.
