Coconut Creek Zero-Waste Ordinance

Zebra Longwing Butterfly

What’s Changing?

For Food Service Businesses

  • Single-use plastic straws and stirrers will no longer be provided, except in specific cases such as medical needs.
  • Single-use plastic food accessories (like utensils and condiment packets) will only be available upon request or at self-serve stations. Businesses must use signage to inform customers that utensils and condiments are available upon request.

For City Facilities and Parks & Recreation Areas

  • Expanded polystyrene (foam) containers are prohibited at all City-permitted events and activities.
  • Plastic confetti, glitter, and balloon releases are restricted to prevent environmental harm.
  • Vendors at City-sponsored events must comply with the ordinance by using approved alternatives to plastic-based foodware.

How You Can Help

  • Support local businesses that are adopting sustainable practices.
  • Bring your own reusable straws, utensils, and cups when dining out.
  • Spread the word and encourage friends and family to embrace these eco-friendly changes!

By working together, we can make a real difference in reducing waste and keeping Coconut Creek green. Thank you for being a part of the solution!
