We're glad you are interested in becoming part of our growing police department. The following are things you should take into immediate consideration. Within 90 days from the date of hire, Police Officers are required to establish residence and actually reside within the counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach during the period of their employment with the City. Officers residing within the tri-county area are also eligible for take-home vehicles upon completion of the necessary training programs.

Police Recruitment FAQ

Minimum Requirements

Must be a United States citizen at time of application (non-certified)
Be at least 21 years of age
Be of good moral character and never have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the United States Armed Forces
High school diploma or GED
Successfully pass a written selection test, psychological evaluation, medical examination, drug screen, and background check
Cannot have visible tattoos while wearing standard issued uniforms
Must live in Palm Beach, Broward or Miami-Dade Counties within the first three months of job offer

Florida Certified Applicants - Proof of FDLE certification.
Out of State / Federal Applicants – Will be required to obtain Florida State certification within the first six months.

Pre-application Process

Police Officer selection test given by City (written)
Swim test no expiration
Physical agility test valid for six months
Testing is provided at Broward College's Institute of Public Safety. Contact the college or visit their website for more information.
Application and background questionnaire. May be obtained from City Hall or online under Help Center - Employment.
