The City must reduce the number of districts from five (5) to four (4) to account for the change to four (4) district commissioners and one (1) mayor elected at large that goes into effect with the 2029 election. This change was approved by voters in the City’s 2024 Referendum Election.

The Re-Districting Board’s purpose is to involve City residents in the thoughtful review of population data, adopted criteria, and any information presented in order to recommend new geographic boundaries for the City Commission.

No. Prior re-districting or mapping experience is not required. The City has hired an Expert Consultant to help guide the Re-Districting Board in coming up with new district configurations based on updated population data to be split as close to even as possible following natural and neighborhood barriers.

Board Members’ role is to thoughtfully review the information presented, apply the adopted criteria, and exercise sound judgment on behalf of the community.

Five (5) residents are needed to serve as Board Members. The Board must complete its task within 120 days from appointment. The anticipated meeting schedule includes four (4) public meetings held on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m., commencing on April 21, 2026 and ending on June 2, 2026. Members should also anticipate reviewing materials in advance of each meeting.

District boundaries are determined by using reliable population data and established re-districting principles such as compliance with federal and state law, contiguous geographic boundaries, substantially equal population across districts, logic, respect for existing neighborhoods, and identifiable boundaries whenever possible.

Yes. The Re-Districting Board will take into account land use entitlements approved for Main Street based on the approved site plans, projected Certificates of Occupancies, and

any other data recommended by the City’s Consultant for Blocks 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, and 15. For Blocks 10 and 16, there are no approved site plans and so the Board will consider the entitlements approved for those blocks. All other blocks are either commercial, civic, or park/open space.

Once the Re-Districting Board adopts its final report and recommended district map, the recommendation is transmitted to the City Commission. The Commission will then consider the Board’s recommendation at a publicly noticed City Commission meeting where they will ultimately adopt the revised district boundaries ordinance, which will not be effective until the 2029 election.
