CCPD Scam Alert

Beware of some of the phone numbers you find on the Internet… that’s the basis for this Coconut Creek Police Department Scam Alert. A Coconut Creek woman had to file a report recently after she got scammed for hundreds of dollars when she called the wrong phone number she found online. She wanted pizza from a local restaurant. Instead of dialing a number that started with a 954, which is our area code, she called a number beginning with 888. She used her credit card to place what she thought was her pizza order with the guy who answered the phone. But he used her credit card numbers to go on his own personal shopping spree, buying everything from pest control supplies to PVC pipe. When you’re hungry and search online for the phone number of your favorite restaurant, especially a local one, make sure it starts with the area code in which you live. While not every number that starts with an 888 is a scam, be very wary before you call it.
